02a | OUR WHYOur goal is to create a universal, industry standard carbon metric
The world urgently needs a unified carbon metric, using interoperable data to enable direct comparison of CO2e emissions for every business.
Why do we need this? Because current methods of carbon accounting are inaccurate, siloed and use unstandardised methodologies, resulting in widely divergent results.
02b | THE PROBLEMWhat’s currently wrong with carbon accounting?
Inaccurate Scoring
Current accounting methods use industry averages published by governments. These are highly inaccurate and assume that one business is the same as another just because they fall into the same generic business category.
Inoperable Data
Data is currently siloed within different platforms and isn’t interoperable between carbon accounting platforms, businesses, governments and institutions. There is no auditing process for verifying the reliability of various platforms where data is held and their methodologies.
No global standards
There are currently no industry standard methodologies for measuring emissions data. This results in different companies’ carbon calculators producing highly divergent results for the same company, or simply basing their results on estimations.
